Need help with 16 month old sleeping (or not sleeping more like!!)

Hi there

Need some desperate help please!

My 16 month old is just not sleeping through the night. She used to be a good sleeper until about 3 months ago.

My fault but she got used to sleeping with me in bed. She seemed uncomfortable in her cot so I have changed it to a cot bed and put her in the room we used to sleep in together.

Problem is, she wont sleep there, either waking 3-4 times a night crying Muy Mumy or coming to find me. She wont fall asleep herself - needing me to sit in the room with her.

I work 3 days so cant get her in bed before 8pm and she normally wakes around 7am so I can drop her off. She has a 2-3 hour nap a day.

Sorry this is a bit long but hopefully that answers all questions to give me tips! I need sleep!!

Thanks everyone

xx

Hi justme77,

I'm afraid I don't have a magic solution. I could try suggesting a few things...?

Opportunities to play in the cot bed during the day might help, and a few familiar objects in there (fave teddy etc). My mum bought a 'cot book' for DS which I scoffed at but he loves.

White noise? You can buy CDs of washing machine noises etc. If she falls asleep to it, then wakes to it in the night it may soothe her back to sleep?

Some kind of comforter?

A pillow? Once my DS had got used to sleeping on his (thin one) it seemed to really help him.

Something that smells of you?

That's a bit of a list, sorry.

could you try shortening the day time nap to 1.5 hours until her night time sleep settles again?

Molars; she's probably in pain and hence not able to self settle.

Hi all

I wonder if it is teething too - she has occassionally been getting a temperature at night and her eating has changed a bit (ie only really eats weetabix, cereal, milk and 'gups' (grapes!) all day long!!

Just seems the teething is a recent thing though...

I have been consoled a bit by reading on here and realising that I am not the only person whose child immediately falls asleep in their cot in their own room for the whole night!!

Have tried lullaby cd but it wakes her up more and am trying to introduce a teddy.

Fingers crossed - thanks for tips though
