ds 3.5 years suddenly waking in night

My son has been waking up 3-4 times in the night for the past month. He goes to sleep fine, he is still in progression on coming out of nightime nappies so at firt he was waking needing loo at about 2am... have cut drinks before bed and usually take him to loo about 11pm.. but he still wakes up SHOUTING for me requiring other things 2-3 times between 1am-6am (nightlight on, drink etc) have put the nightlight near him so he can switch on himself, do I let him carry on shouting till he knows to go back to sleep? He will shout for me for ages!!..feel like I have tried everything and both him and I are suffering from his waking. He's getting so tired in afternoon and wants to fall asleep about 4pm after nursery...and suggestions would be great..sorry for long meesage!

Hi, my son is now five and goes through getting up at night when he has a cold (which usually lasts for a couple of weeks. By the time his cold has gone he is in a routine of waking up during the night. All I do is go into his bedroom without the light on and lay him back down telling him to go back to sleep. I dont give him anything and after a couple of nights he knows he isnt going to get anything when he wakes me so he goes straight back to sleep and in the end sleeps right through again.
