What is this? Restless legs?

DS is 6 months old and has been sleeping through the night for a few months now. Since about 4 weeks ago during his sleep he has been kicking his legs up into the air and then letting them drop heavily back down again. He does this so much that he wakes himself up and getting distressed. Has anyone else experienced or know what this is?

He is in a co-bed but the leg-kicking has now got to the point where his legs now kick over onto us in our bed! Really don't want to put him in a separate room just yet though.

Have tried dressing him in less in case he was hot, changed to different nappy and from disposable to cloth ones. More feed, less feed, and burping more but can't figure out what it is.

Would appreciate any input.

My dd does this as well! She's just 5 months and has been doing it for a while now. I always know when she's going to wake up because I get wakened by the thumping on the cot mattress! I wondered if it was because her sleeping bag was too small for her, but no, she does it anyway with no covers. I've come to the conclusion that it's just her way of waking up ?
