Sleep

is 10 hours all right for a 4-year-old?

sorry this is a very minor thread for this board but my mum has put the wind up me slightly by saying that she thinks ds is overtired - is 10 hours' sleep reasonable for a 4-year-old? God knows I wish he slept a bit more but this is how it is at the moment - I have a feeling he will sleep a bit more in the autumn, as ever, or am I fooling myself??

thanks for reading

DD1 is 4 next month. We are lucky to get 10hrs out of her. Is she over-tired, hell yes. Can I do anything about it.... wish i bloody could!

As a last ditch attempt to get her to sleep past 5am, I have taped black bags over her windows today.

Sympathy from me x

Is it ten hours straight or broken by waking?

What time does he go down in the evening ?

For some 4y it is plenty; for others not enough.

Dd probably slept about 11 hours at 4y; dropped to a bit less know (y)

DS is 4.6 and sometimes has about 10 hours sleep. He generally will have a night or so of 12 hours sleep to balance it out though.

Some children need less sleep than others though.

Mmm yes I thought it was a bit on the short side.

He goes down at 9, appears in our bed at some point between 2 am and 6am, and then wakes properly between 7 and 7.30, mostly. He wakes us up - well actually [nasty wife emoticon] I think dh's snoring wakes him up. But it's a sound he's used to, anyway.

i think the coming into your bed bit might be the problem because it is 10hrs broken sleep.

DD1 is nearly 4 and goes to bed at 8pm and sleeps through to at least 7 some days I have to wake her at 7.30am. So thats 11 hours I thought that was a bit less than average TBH.

DS1 is 4 he sleeps 12 hours+ and is still over tired..
I don't think enough sleep is possible at that age, a couple of his friends have much less sleep at night but still have a sleep in the afternoon.

I agree with Jarm..
if there is any way of stopping him coming through to you in the middle of the night it may help..

My DD (4.5) has NEVER slept longer than 11 hrs, and is usually around 10 - 10.5 hrs.

She falls asleep around 7.30pm and wakes up anytime from 5.00 - 6.30am.

ooh heifer that's TOUGH.

We thought we'd cracked the coming into our bed thing but we've moved out of our house due to repairs and are now living in someone else's house - hence the trouble. Oh well. We all slept to 8.30 or so this morning so that's a bit of a catchup.

My 5 yr old has 10 - 10.5 hours and I secretly think it's not enough as she does seem tired, but what can you do? She goes to bed at 7.30, but it's usually after 8.30 before she's asleep. She wakes around 7.00.

Choosy - tell me about it - she has a cold at the moment so is waking up during the night also!

I am hoping that when she goes to school in September she will be sooo knackered that she will sleep longer...
