My ds is nearly 6 months and for the last month has been taking 2 hours to settle at night. Same routine each night, into our room, nappy change, babygro on, grobag on, bf until he's satisfied, wind him, kiss goodnight, into crib. Ten minutes later (sometimes sooner) 'Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh'. I go to him, cuddle and calm him down (no talking or eye contact) he's happy as larry, back into crib, 'Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh' again, I leave him for a few minutes, back in, calm him down with a cuddle etc and so om. TWO HOURS later he's usually settled. He's been great at going to bed until the light nights, but then we got that sussed, this two hour carryon just started when he got a cough (now gone) and started teething (two have now come through). Don't remember this with my other 2..... HELP please, I'm finding this soul destroying!!!

What time does he go to bed Tellyaddict? My DD went though a phase of taking much longer to settle and my hv suggested putting bedtime back by 30 mins. It worked and then after a week or so, we started bringing it earlier again by a few minutes.

Hi Mooki

we've gradually brought it back by 10 mins or so from 9 to 7 as I noticed that around 6 he was getting very sleepy and sometimes would go to sleep for 45 mins and then not want to go to bed for a few hours after. I did put him to bed at 6 a couple of times and he went 12 hours (this coincided with him having his first solids) but on the third night he didn't want to know again. I could try putting him to bed at this time for a few nights again and see how it goes, it's too early for us but I can gradually make it later once we've sorted out the crying problem! Do you think it's an overtired problem?

Sorry, by back I meant later. DD was too full of beans at 7pm, so we made it 7.30 for a bit. It did mean she tended to fall asleep during the breastfeed though.

Hi tellyaddict, how many naps a day does he have? DS2 also 6 months has just cut out his late afternoon nap (was having about half an hour somewhere between 4 and 5pm) and is settling much better at bedtime (usually 6.45/7pm) could it be that he is ready to cut a nap out?

Hi firststeps - he doesn't have regular naps as such, tends to only fall asleep in pram/car and then for about 45 mins. Occassionally he'll sleep for an hour or so but not very often.

Tonight he went to bed at 6.30 without so much as a whimper, but he fell asleep breastfeeding and was too knackered to wake when I put him in his crib (he had a late night last night as we were returning from holiday).
