hi everyone, my 3 year old little boy has always been an excellent sleeper but last night he came into me at 1.40 in the morning saying there was a monster in his room. he did not seem too scared and after 10 min went back to bed but kept geting up over the next few hours. during the day he would not go upstairs to the toilet on his own or to his room as he is convinced there is a pig there!! strange i know. he says it goes oink oink at night???? any suggestions? told him it could be daddy snoring but he having none of it and its really unsettling him xx

Hmm. If it carries on, you could try going along with it when you put him to bed and calling the pig out or something? So he knows the pig has gone outside and is sleeping somewhere else??! And/or get him a soft toy pig to make friends with it?

3 year olds are very tricky aren't they!!

my dd kept saying there was a monster in her bedroom - so I got one of my old perfumes and told her that I had a special spray that the monster wouldn't like - then I would spray the room - seemed to work and after a few nights she didn't mention it again

We have a cat. I told DD that there is no way that our cat would let a monster in the house.

I also let her watch Sooby Doo so that she could see that monsters are not real and they are always just people pretending. You may need to see how sensitive & logical your DS is for this strategy though.

maybe they are fuelling his imagination. cut out those programmes for a week and see if it makes a difference

We had some problems with tigers in dd1's room, and we put a stuffed gorilla she had out and assured her that it was all ok as Monkey was on guard. Worked for ages, and he has forever since been called 'Monkey-on-Guard'.
