DS is 10 months and has always been a crap sleeper. Since 6 months he's been put-downable but we have to feed or rock him until he's sleepy then pat ahd sssshhhh him until he's sound asleep. I've got the NCSS and found that helpful to ease him off the sucking-to-sleep thing but can't find a way round sucking-to-sleepy!

I've been trying really hard to put him down awake but there's been so much troubling him recently (wind, teeth, diarrhoea, cold, teeth, diarrhoea again etc) that it's been a case of "by whatever means necessary" and the 'training' has taken a back seat much of the time. But it seems like we've ground to a halt anyway - he's no easier to put down, we still need rocking or feeding in order to achieve the serene sleepy state (his normal status when tired is twitchy and wired), and how on earth do you go about reducing the shhing and patting?

I'm working full time and trying to be really zen about all this, so he comes into bed with us if he wakes after we've gone to sleep. He settles OK there providing nothing's bothering him, but he does feed to sleep while in bed. I'm not into CC (wouldn't work with him, he works himself into a frenzy if left and us going back and forth is too stimulating) and am of the opinion that he will get better in his own time, but I really felt for a while we were gently managing to see improvements. Now we're stuck!
