DS is 9 months old and I have been very very lucky with his night sleep. He slept through fairly early and unil the last few weeks has always slept through.

However, the shit has really hit the fan recently since he has been able to sit up from laying down position. He used to be able to settle himself back t opsleep if he woke in the night. However, now he sits up and obviously can't go back to sleep so just cries for us.

We go in an lay him back down but the second we leave he cries and sits up again. I'm not sure if this is just separation anxiety or what but it's taking longer and longer to settle him back to sleep. We have to stay with our hand on him til he's in such a deep sleep that we can sneak out which is often unsuccessful.

We are totally new to all these night wakings and have no idea what to do. Family and friends have said sleep training and leaving him to cry but surely this can't work while he's sat up?? I need help!!!!!!!!!

Anyone???? Was just wondering if controlled crying will work if I constantly have to stay with him to lay him back down?? I can't see as it will, perhaps it's just a phase???

Hi meandmyjoe, when your lo goes for his naps during the day and also down at bedtime could you start by sitting him in his cot then laying him down from this position so he gets used to it. This is what we did with DS1 when he learned to stand up, we would stand him in his cot then put him in a lying down position from there. After a while he learned not to stand up when he woke up but would turn over and go back to sleep.

Also it won't be long before he learns how to lie down himself from a sitting position -it is just another one of those annoying phases! HTH

Oh he knows how to lay down again, he does it all day. He just seems incapable at night! Maybe it's just separation anxiety making it worse. It's getting so bad and I am so tired. Thinking of co-sleeping but dh says NO! Think he's worried that he will never go back to sleeping alone which I understand. Thanks for replyin, just hope you're right and it is just an annoying phase!

OK well touch wood, he cried for about a minute when I put him to bed last night but didn't sit up and went straight to sleep. Thankfully he slept through again too so hoping it's just phase that will pass!

Hi. My ds is also just 9 months and doing the same. He learnt how to sit up last week and seems to think his cot is an obsticol course. He thinks its funny crawling round it and sitting up and is now even pulling himself up. Just spent 40 mins rocking him to sleep as he is so shattered but as soon as i put him in his cots he rolls onto his side to sit up. I just thought I'd let you know that I'm at the end of my tether too, its so frusating to see them so tierd. I have tried putting my hand on his chest to keep him on his back till he nods off but he is so strong.

Anyway let me know how you get on, and any tips from anyone else would be great..
