Sleep

Won't go to sleep alone during day

My 16 week old will not go off to sleep easily in the day. I've tried everything. Some things work for a while and then wear off. I've tried different sleeping positions, just holding him until he's calm and then putting him down, darkened rooms, sleeping in cot, lullaby cot toys, letting him cry but he just refuses to sleep in the day without a fight. At night I can put him in his cot and turn out the light and he goes to sleep. I don't want to get into the habit of rocking him. Any tips would be grately appreciated.

TBH you are really lucky to have him settle at night so well. I think he is very clever He will get the hang of day times soon. Just try and keep it as similar to night time as possible.

TBH, we found DS adapted better to day time naps if they were totally different to the night. He's 13mo now and still not a great sleeper, but will have one or two naps in the day - in his pram. I used to walk for miles (helped me lose the pg weight ) to get him to sleep, then eventually he started sleeping in his pram in the house. He goes to nursery now and they've managed to get him to sleep in a baby chair that they rock - in day light surrounded by other playing babbling babies.

It took me until DS was nearly 1 to get him to sleep on his own in the day. He will now fall asleep himself in his cot rather than endless pushing of the pram. He has to be fed to sleep at night and the only way we get a decent ish night is to co-sleep. He is 15 months.

If you have a car then you could drive until he nods off in the car seat -- then park somewhere nice and have a coffee/read a magazine/snooze yourself!

That and being pushed in the pram always worked for DS. He didn't start cot napping until 5/6 months, and even then I had to rock him to sleep until he was about 12mo. It's totally normal I reckon.
