Sleep

sitting up and crawling around the cot

Anyone got any advice. 10 mth old DD, has always fought sleep, but has been sleeping through the night pretty much for last 3 months. We have had a good bedtime routine since about 6wks old. Now started crawling and I have just gone back to work and she is going to nursery 2 days per week. Not easy to get her to go to sleep or stay asleep now, she keeps waking up and sitting up in the cot. Have tried lying her down again but just gets back up. Not sure if change of going to nursery and or ability to move around cot causing this and whether it is just a phase and we need to ride it out or anything we can do?

Does she cry or just happy wandering around her cot? What time are we talking about?

Thanks for your reply. It starts when we try and put her to bed now, used to go into cot awake and then go to sleep with one of us in the room. Now sits straight up, plays for a couple of minutes and then cries. Cries more quickly if we leave the room. Took about 40 minutes this evening of repeatedly lying her back down - she got back up again, and then holding her in the cot and not letting her roll and sit up. She woke up every 90 minutes through last night and was sitting up but went back to sleep quickly when put back down.

sounds grim, hopefully just a phase

is she in a grobag?

Yes - grobag in situ although doesn't seem to stop her being able to stand up in the cot!

Can she get herself back down from a sitting or standing position? Do you really need to put her back down into a lying position or is she just enjoying the attention? I know that it may sound harsh, but we now leave the room before our DD sits or stands up and she settles really quickly. Obviously we didn't do this while she wasn't able to get comfy again by herself but we helped her learn how to do this during playtime.

I agree Swali - think its more likely an attention thing. I'd try controlled crying also, and when you do go in to see to her, dont talk or make eye contact. She'll soon learn that she's supposed to be going to sleep!
