cot gymnastics and wedged in baby.

DD is 7 months old and wakes usually once in the night - however, lately this has increased due to her cot gymnastics. She somehow wiggles in her bag to the top of the cot, throws in a quick bottom pivot, and ends up completely wedged in width ways, little head pressed against the bars one way, feet pushed up against the other bars. Upon realisation that her training session has been rather dramatically ended, she starts grumbling, and has to be rescued. Here lies my problem - she wont resettle again without a quick feed - it's not possible to just go in, straighten her up, and leave again.
So basically I wanted to know

  • Is this just a phase? Will it pass?
  • Should we put in cot bumpers? Are these safe?
Has anybody else had this problem?
    Thanks

I did have this problem exactly. My DD is a lot younger, but I bought a thing that is basically two padded round things with a towelling strip connecting them from Jojomamanbebe for £15, this is the link...www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/detailfash.php?type=FASH&code=A6880&branch=IF&category=GST81
to one that is similar to mine, though not the same for some reason. She seems to prefer being a bit 'cuddled' round the middle and she no longer ends up in an embrace with the top left hand corner of the cot!
Hope this helps.

Mine does the same, because she wants to be snug. I have cot bumpers (thin) for her to wedge against.

Maybe your dd wouldn't wake up if she had a bumper to snuggle against - the bars must be quite hard. My guess is she's travelling because she wants to feel 'swadddled' by the cot rather than lost in the middle.

There is an overheating risk though, but I gave up worrying about it (well, tried) because dd WOULD NOT sleep in any other scenario..

My son does this (he is 7 months), but has just figured out (sometimes) how to get himself out of the wedged position! I have not got bumpers, but don't think it would make any difference to him as he throws himself around. It does get frustrating to have to rescue them several times in a night tho!
