Please help with any experiences / recommendations / info / anything you've heard - I've decided we need professional help and am waiting for HV to call me back but in the meantime am making my own enquiries and really need personal recommendations. One GP has suggested the child psych at a local clinic; another has just told us to do CC, which I'm opposed to (please don't start anything on this - just a personal thing - don't want to debate it here!). Will see what HV says about this but I need help NOW so if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd be very grateful.

I have of course read the relevant books, Pantley, Ford, Hogg, etc. Have been using Baby Whisperer techniques but sleep is just getting worse - was going for a phone consultation with Tracy Hogg but tragically she has died :(

I don't know who is best to help as would have recommened her.....if you want tv involved, the BBC are looking for people for a Gina Ford show, but she's not my cup of tea personally....there's a link on here somewhere for it, it was floating around yesterday? anyone know where?
I hope you get help with sleeping soon, hugs and bump.

Andrea Grace sorted ds1 out.
I thoroughly recommende her she was great!

She will visit you for a chat and to find out what the problems is and what solution you want. She will meet with your child and then go away and write up a plan for you to follow tailored specially for you. She charged £50 two years ago.

The advice is common sense, we found the real benefit was having a third party tell us what to do as we had come to the end of our tether.

Can't recommend her highly enough. She is based in north London, I think she charges an extra £20 if she has to make a long journey.

Suzywong, you're a godsend. I'll give her a call. Can I ask, does she do controlled crying at all?

also check here - the Millpond clinic was: \link{http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk?topicid=5&threadid=23548\the best £150 I ever spent} according to one mn'er

yes she does, but not standing outside the door. We had trouble getting Ds1 in the cot ( we co slept) and she had us put him in the cot on the first night and just stroke him and tell him he had to go to sleep. Of course he screamed the house down for 52 minutes and was sick twice but it only took 5 nights altogether and the second night was only ablout 20 minutes

she is very very nice. call her now!

Thanks Suzy. That 1st night sounds a bit scary but I'll contact her anyway - once I've had a nap!!

hope you sort it out bahhumbug. Just curious though - are you hoping a sleep clinic is going to come up with some way of "curing" a restless baby without any crying? my understanding is that really they just give the same advice as you can get in various books, with the added bonus of a sympathetic ear on hand to support you.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade here, or start any sort of debate on CC, but a baby who wakes a lot in the night is definitely going to have to spend quite a bit of time crying while he/she learns to go to sleep by themselves. I only say this because with my first child I couldn't bear to leave him to cry, and therefore never stuck to anything for longer than a few nights, but with my second I found it much easier. First child (DS) is only just sleeping through consistently (aged 3), while second child (DD) is sleeping through now at 7 months. And I honestly don't think they were different at all in their "natural" habit of crying every hour all night before I addressed the problem.

didn't know if you ended up finding some help for your little one?? I am from the states and have a friend who swears by a website/forum she is involved in. You can become a member, chat whenever and post questions whenever and get one on one help online. Don't know if you are interested or not - am I allowed to post links here like that?? Don't want to switch up the rules or drive anyone crazy here! Just wanted to pass on what my friend has seen help her if it would help

PLEASE can I have that link?!!! It's fine to post links here as long as you're not advertising. If in doubt please email me through 'contact another talker' above. Thank you!!!!

here is that link just in case you didn't get my email! www.babysleephelp.com
I hope this helps! As I posted in my email to you - I haven't taken the plunge myself to join yet since I have need to save up some more $$ (bought too many other sleep books.... ), but I am thinking I will soon! My friend says it is the BEST thing she ever did and worth the $50 -I am pretty sure that pays for her book, chat, community, one on one training etc. There may be more...not sure?? I am truly seeing a more saner friend now!
Good luck! you may be able to send her an email on her site before joining to see if it is what you want to do...?? keep up posted!

I used Millpond a few months ago. ds (18months)was never a good sleeper but was gettting worse and worse waking up in the nights and needing me to settle him.

They won't come up with anything that you don't know but I found the way they preented the information and talked through my concerns really helped. They helped prepare a plan based on a lot of info I had provided them about his rountine over 2 weeks. I was dead set against CC and was explicit about that and I did not need to really do it but it was a lot more about helping him learn to go to sleep on his own whilst knowing I was there for reassurance. I do now leave him longer than I used to and have 'learnt' the difference between him really needing me and a cry that is not that pesistent. I would never leave him crying more than 5 mins or so at the max.
I have to say that now he sleeps much better even during difficult times of illness/being in strange houses etc and if he is disturbed settles back into a routine fairly quickly.
I was recommended to Millpond by 2 work colleagues who had had total success eith them and I would def recommend them I would have paid triple what they asked for in fee based on he success.

That's really useful to know, Katie. May well try them. Did you go in to their offices?
