Anyone gone RIGHT BACK TO THE BEGINNING with their toddler & sleep?

We have an 18mo boy. A year ago we got him sleeping through the night and he has been a gem ever since. Now since Friday he has suddenly gone on a sleeping strike. If we leave him alone in bed he screams the house down so we have taken to getting him to fall asleep on our chests just as we did when he was a little baby and then we gently lower him down into his cot. We are really concerned over this giant step backwards.

In March we go to visit family in the States. I am really worried he will be doing this then too. Any advice would be appreciated. We sorta do CC but we dont carry it on very long I get too upset when he seems to stop breathing from crying so I rush in and scoop him up. I cant bear it.

I am not aware of him teething. He is freaking out when I put him down for a nap as well but we are eventually managing to get him off to sleep. I really cant think of anything that has changed.

well, perhaps he's just going through a clingy phase, and the lack of sleep at naptime (because of the freaking out) is also disturbing his night time sleep?

I would try to get back to normal by putting him down for his nap and staying with him (or taking him out in the car, or whatver it takes) and then just shush and pat when he wakes at night. hopefully you won't need cc (and don't whatever you do, do cc half heartedly!).

how was last night?

is it possible he's started having bad dreams and is frightened of going to sleep?

can you do gradual retreat with him?
