Co-sleeping naps question

We've sort of drifted into co-sleeping. I love it as I work, so I get all night snuggled up to DS (10 months). DH is not so keen but is OK with it. We all get more sleep, anyway.

My question is about the problem we're having with naps. DS will now only sleep with one of us next to him. If we transfer him to the cot he wakes and cries and I'm not going to do sleep training. Our bed is not safe to leave him in alone (although I suspect he would sleep happily on his own in there).

How do other co-sleepers do naps? We've got to the point where DH (who's a SAHD) loses 2/3 hours every day because he has to be on the bed with the little one!

Any suggestions/advice very much appreciated.

We are co-sleeping with our DS2 and co-slept with our DS1 and usually for convenience I settle him on the sofa and move myself away when he is in deep sleep allowing me to potter around downstairs. Will leave him up in bed if i'm up there doing things, at 11 months he will climb down off bed anyway and safety gates all in place, but usually he just whimpers or groans so i hear him first. HTH.

Thanks, ChaCha. How old was your DS1 when you stopped co-sleeping? Was it an easy transition?

Is it safe to leave a 10 month old on a sofa?
I'm not questioning what you do but I read that babies shouldn't sleep on sofas - or is that just newborns?

Hi Ettena, DS1 was probably around 18 months. We just started to take him up to bed, settle him (book and milk) and then leave the room when he was very much asleep. Difficult at times as one of us would end up falling asleep with him. He is just over 2 now and sleeps in a large double bed that is low down and near the floor - never had any problems.

As for DS1 I would place him in moses basket when very small and take him with me wherever DS1 and I went and then as he got older both boys would and still do sleep either end of sofa - is a very big and comfortable sofa and both have been fine on it. Particularly useful when i wasn't able to bath both and put them to bed on my own. I wouldn't suggest what i've done for everyone but it worked for us and both boys are/have been fine with it and sleep through the night (hurray!) x
