i have read numerous pieces of literature advising not to swaddle your baby after 6 weeks.i am still swaddling my DD 10wks as she wakes up regularily when i have tried her in a sleeping bag, think she is waking up when her arms are jerking in her sleep. i have read that swaddling can be a factor in cot deaths. Any advice?

I didn't start swaddling DS until he was about 12 weeks (wish I had thought about it sooner). HV frowned at me a bit but it really helped DS to settle. I think the concerns about the cot death link are to do with the baby becoming too hot, but I think that would apply equally to heavy bedding - as long as the room temperature is okay I cannot see too much of a problem (someone will do doubt correct me if I am wrong).

I started swaddling my little one at about 10 weeks and that's when he really started sleeping well...6-10 hrs. a night in a row without waking once!! Well...he's 15 weeks now and getting out of it. I have a whole other problem now. Glad I did it while I could and got many hours of sleep in. Does your baby's arms flail about when not swaddled?
