Sleep

14 month old down to 1 nap a day but yesterday no nap all day as sat in cot for 1 1/2 hours

My DD went to one nap about a week and a half ago as she didn't seem tired and was taking an hour to go over at her usual morning time of 11ish so we thought she needed more activity time before her nap and moved it to 12ish resulting in a nearly 2 hour sleep then bed at 7.00. The problem was yesterday when I put her down at 1.00 (a bit later) she actually sat and laid in her cot for an hour and a half without sleeping. She was happy enough talking to herself or her cuddles and each time there was quietness I went to check but she was just sitting there. Anybody any ideas as to why this happens. She usually wakes at 7.30 a.m. but over the Christmas period it was 8.30 a.m. and we are now waking her at 7.30 as she wasn't having a 12 hour day before going down for the night and didn't seem tired but I don't know why this happened yesterday. NO day time sleep at all freaks me out and I don't want this to happen. When this happened yesterday she went to sleep for the night at 7.30 to 7.30 this morning. Would no day time sleep some days equal night wakings. If she is with a relative (Mon/Thurs - nanny)who has a travel cot but wont use it as she says she wont sleep in it so tries to get her to sleep on the bed so she wont sleep for them and we end up with an extremely fussy exhausted toddler who has to go to bed at 6.30.

havent read your full post as there were no breaks in it and it was hard going.
But my ds2 from 14m often didn't have a nap in the day, he would get really tired and I'd put him in the cot where he would just chill and chatter to his teddy lying down for 45 mins or so then want to get back up.
Why does no day time sleep freak you out? Its not about how much sleep you want her to have, but how much she needs.
I think chilling in the cot for a while is just like us saying 'oh I just need 5 minutes'. We don't go to sleep, we just wind down for a bit and feel better for it after.
I have only ever put my children for naps when they seem tired, not at particular 'usual' times on the clock.

Oops sorry it seemed a little longwinded! My DD is a good sleeper. She has had 2 naps most days up to now so I was just saying that no sleep at all isn't realy the norm for her and am worried that it might result in night wakings. No sleep at all from 7.30 to 7.30 for a 14 month old is a bit much! I also don't put her down by the clock but know how much activity time she seems to need before getting tired but obviously yesterday she didn't want or `need' to sleep.

looks like the excitment of christmas may have disrupted her routine a bit. If she is happy playing by herself in her cot then thats great. Leave things as they are (12 pm nap) for a bit and see how they go

jogym, my lo has been through phases where he has gone without a daytime sleep, I still used to put him down at roughly the same time every day and after a few days he usually was going back to having his usual nap. He's 2.1 now and still has an hour at lunchtime every day. HTH
