Sleep

When your lo was 9 months, did he/she nap twice in the day or what?

Because mine is not wanting to sleep until about 11am,or later, after getting up at 7. she then sleeps for a good stretch of 2 hours or more. But won't go down for a second nap that day. Bed at 630/7 and then wakes after 45 mins - as though she has had her second nap. Mind you she has ALWAYS woken after 45 mins of going to bed, 1,2 or 3 naps a day.

Should I go with the one nap a day thing? Surely she's too young. When dd1 was this age I am q sure she napped twice - but then i only had her and walked her daily to sleep. Can't do that with dd2, with a 3 year old in tow, also living in Singapore now so would sweat my tits off.

Past threads seem to suggest that 2 naps is the norm until a year old at least.

Advice muchly appreciated

Dd had 2 naps a day until 10/11 months, and then dropped to one. Her two naps were usually only about 40 mins each though, so if your dd is having a 2 hour nap, then that might be enough to see her through, especially when she is going to bed so early.

DS has two naps at 10mo -- up at 6.30-7, nap at 9 (for an hour max) then 1 (for up to 1.5 hours). But I know a few babies who went to one nap around this age.

Yes, about 10 and 2 I think, but it was a long time ago!

We always did the two naps for both my DS's but of course DS2 was much more straight forward as I just let him get on with it while DS1 I didn't know much and would try to get him to sleep in my arms blah blah blah. Have you tried takeing LO for a walk in a darkened pram two hours after get up time - lay the pram flat ...

DD didn't nap at all. Ever.

DS is still twice (22 months) given the chance.

Go with what your DD wants

Our dd had two until about 2-3 months ago
(she's 19 months now).

Anecdotally my impression is that 2 hours
is the average an older baby/toddler sleeps during the day.
Often in 2x 1h slots, true.

Unless you want to wake her up after
1 hour (not sure that will be a pleasant experience)
she sounds unlikely to need another nap.

Or does she strike you as overtired and cranky in the afternoon?

thanks for your posts. she doesn't seem too overtired or cranky - she is an easy going baby, bless her. i guess i'll just go with the one nap and not push it, not that i CAN push it very easily with 3 year old in tow, demanding as she is!

i could wake her after an hour, that would prob be ok. hard to resist not doing that though!

ds nearly 10 months - has a 1.5 - 2 hour nap at 11 (gets up at 8) and then occasionalyl about 20mins at about 4 - 4.30 depending on how long his lunchtime nap was.

if he doesn't get at least 1.5 hours during the day, he falls asleep during his 6pm feed & then we have a nightmare evening.

sounds the norm to me ! i did a reccy of friends, and their kids all had about 2 hours at lunch at this age.

i'd go with it.

oh thanks puffylovett, thank is comforting then. there are loads of babies on our street of this age, well some a few weeks younger and they all seem to have 2-3!!

yesterday, dd had a nap early at 1030 as she was up at 6am. she slept for 1.5 hours, then she slept again around 315 for an hour. so wouldnt go to bed until nearly 8. yes, i think one nap middle of day is all she needs.

thanks
