this is a really tricky one. I had a good read around when DD was born as it's been the only way I can cope and I got hell from my mum about putting my DD at risk. Ithink most agree that cosleeping, when taking the proper precautions, is safer than a baby sleeping in their own room at under 6 months. And many cosleeping fans say that the stats on cot death and cosleeping are skewed - think it's something to do with the cosleeping stats including known causes of death such as being trapped between the mattress and wall. So those people say that cosleeping (with precautions - non smokers etc) actually reduces the rate of cot death. However, I think the rate of infant death is still a higher percentage than of those in cots?

Sorry, not much help. I know what you mean as I've read it places too but I haven't found anything concrete. Having said that, I've read a lot of discussion that the advice to avoid cosleeping is skewed for the reasons above and also to avoid people doing it without precaution.

I think I read that breastfed babies are at less risk when cosleeping as breastfeeding mums are more in tune with their babies sleep and will never turn away, sleep light and nauturally protect their baby using their body.

As I understand it's good to sleep with one sober parent, but bad to sleep with two, or one who has taken alcohol, sleeping tablets or drugs.
