Fussing in sleep

My 5 week old dd will sometimes sleep soundly and other times thrash around and fuss for ages, she seems to be asleep, eyes closed, but is so noisy, almost like she is grizzling in her sleep, is this normal? I end up having to pick her up because its impossible for dh and I to sleep. She doesn't seem to do it in my bed, but I don't want to co-sleep all the time, as I don't settle for worrying about her over heating.

if your dd isn't crying or visibly upset, don't worry! my boys did this, and my mum (queen of wives' tales and good old-fashioned advice) said it was just a baby's way of getting exercise. After three DC, am tempted to believe her! go back to baby-instinct, they need to feel secure, which is why they sleep well in mum and dads bed. It's the "nest"!! I agree about the concerns over a little baby overheating, I didn't do more than them falling asleep and night-feeds until around 5 months, when they are capable of moving to where they want to be and letting you know if they're to hot/whatever.
my DD (just 2) still does a weird thing, she sleeps with her eyes half-open and you can see her eyes moving... has done this since she was tiny. very bizarre. Gist is, all babies do similar stuff and do different stuff, and unless baby is distressed, don't panic!

when dd was that age we used to call her the "creature" because of the amount of noise she could make in her moses basket! They do get quieter as they get older! I also read somewhere that babies rustle about just before they fall into deep sleep and if you wake them while they are doing this they may find it hard to get themselves into deep sleep - not sure how true that is?

Hi My little boy is 10 weeks and has been doing a similar thing for some time.We aren.t sure why he does it either. As you say his eyes are shut but he kicks the covers off and his arms are thrashing about. I often leave him but it goes on for ages and eventually he wakes himself crying. What I have noticed is that at this time I can hear his bowel sounds so I wonder whether it may be colic related.Suprisingl,y it does seem a little better since we put him on cowangate comfort and he no longer has day time colic.Just an idea.
It could however just be part of his sleep cycle.
