Can anyone help?
I,m a first time mum and my beautiful boy is now 8 weeks old.I breastfed him for the first 3 weeks then had a few problems so he has been on formula since. He cannot go more than 3hrs without a feed if he is awake-but can go 4 hrs if asleep-I ,ve tried getting him to go longer but screams!!He is taking about 38oz/day and is only 12lb so I am worried he is overfeeding despite following his centile.
He never shows signs of having has enought feed and after 60z I have to put his dummy in and try and distract him until he setles. He has also been colicky but has been great from this point of view since changing from SMA gold to cow/gate comfort.
At the moment he feeds at 8pm then sleeps in his crib from 8.30 onwards. We wake him at 11.30 for a feed then he wakes aroun 3-4pm for a feed and again 7am.
He also niggles a lot during the night. I have tried hungry baby formula at night only and it makes no difference. Is it normal for an 8 week old to still need feeding 3-4 hrly at night??
Sorry for all the detail!!

Hi givin, your little one sounds exactly like mine was at 8 weeks, don't worry it will get better! How many ounces does he take at each feed?

What I should also have said is that it all sounds perfectly healthy + normal too

I have 2dd's. They never went more than 3 hours between feeds. Sometime it was 2 hours. With my second dd I feed every three hours. If she was sleeping in the day I would wake her for a feed. This helps in getting them into a routine whereby they take most of their nutritional needs in the day and need less at night. My second dd, at 10 weeks went down at 6, was lifted at 10 for a dream feed and then would sleep till 6am.

8 weeks is very young and so they feed a lot!! getting into a routine really helped me with dd2...x

Thanks for the reassurance. He takes 60z at each feed .Generally speaking he goes 4hrs on one daytime feed(this is when he has his longest sleep) and 3hrs on the others-today I had to feed him after 2 1/2hrs and he was content after.

Hi givin, sorry for misreading your OP, didn't spot the 6oz. This amount is fine. Again, he sounds exactly like my ds was, when he got to about 12 wks we started to give him his 'dream feed' approx 1/2 an hour later and he miraculously started sleeping through until 7am!
You say you 'wake' him for a feed at 11.30pm, does he actually wake up at that feed? We just sneak ds out of his cot in the dark and he seems to take the bottle in his sleep - it's quite remarkable really...!
But all this sounds absolutely normal for an 8 week old, you are doing a great job already
