When did you move from swaddling into sleeping bags and which tog do you start on?

i used my from before six months on my ds who is now 4 and my dd who is nearly 13 months has had one from before six months. my children have never kept still under the covers and would always wake freezing. when i see pictures of babies nicely tucked in a cot i laugh as mine would have never done that! ive always used the 2.5togs especially now. even in the summer i used 2.5 but put them with just a t shirt.

Grobags themselves recommend at a certain weight - think its 7 or 8lbs for 1st grobag. tog goes from 2.5 down to 1. I always bought the 1.5 which was towelling lined. Great if you have a warm house. A normal cot qilt is 4 tog so you are still comfortably cool, they can't pull it over their heads and overheat and they can't kick them off. A bit dear but no more than quilts and blankets and a lot easier. Get a genuine grobag, i tried lots and they are best. I think they have a website and will be able to advise you of tog. Don't get the thinnest, only suitable for high summer

Both my dd's went into grobags at 10-12 weeks. I preferred the 1.5 tog towelling ones as they are great for all but the hottest weather in summer and in winter you can just put a blanket on top.

A lot earlier than the other posters, I think. Maybe 2 weeks, maybe 4?? DS went into a 2.5 tog in the moses basket with the very long end hanging over the basket. He probably weighed 10lb ish as was 8.8 born.

Don't think it matters what tog you use as long as room temp is ok. We had a thermostatically controlled oil filled radiator so i think we used one for ds2 quite early (according to instructions on grow bag ie c 17c with short sleeved vest plus suit). I have a radiator for sale if you want one!

I used one as soon as she hit 10lbs (prob about 8 weeks) as she kept coming out of the swaddling blanket thing and waking up. She slept miles better in Gro-bags. I think the first size one I had was a 1.5 tog. Would recommend them as my number one thing to use with babies.

Which tog do you go for, you seem to be able to get 1 or 2.5 tog, out house is really warm so do you think I should just go for 1 tog, it just looks very thin and worried it won't keep him warm

if the room your lo will be sleeping in stays warmer than about 21 degrees then it would be best to get a 1 tog bag. I'd check the lowest temperature it gets to in the middle of the night though as that is when you would need the extra warmth e.g. when ds goes to bed it can be 21 degrees but it can drop to 16 degrees in the night so I would then use a 2.5tog bag

Bumpto3 gives info about sizing, togs and what to wear with a bag.

My ds went into a bag at a few weeks old and was in a 2.5 tog bag as he was born in October. He has just recently moved back into a 2.5 tog bag after being in a 1 tog bag during the summer.
