Sleep

out of depth with my 10 month old

Hi there.

Could you please tell me how much sleep your 10 month olds are having in the day time. Only my ds sleeps from 9.30-11.30 am and then from 1ish-3.30pm. Trouble is at the moment he is sleeping very badly at night. he is waking around 12ish for a bottle and then is up every hour or so and then awake from 5am. I have another ds who is nearly 3 and its disturbing him as they share a room. We are going to to move the baby into the spare room but he ends up in there half way through the night anyway.

He never normally has a bottle at night and goes to bed at 7pm. Any advice as Im feeling very run down and a bit sad.

Thank you.

Sorry this is getting to you, its rubbish when you get so tired isn't it! My DS wakes quite a bit at night but he is having a lot less sleep in the day than your LO. My LO goes to bed at 7.30 ish and gets up between 6 and 8 am depending on how many times he has woken in the night (I don't wake him up, just wait for him to wake naturally). He then has around an hour from 10.30 to 11.30 ish and then another hour to an hour and a half in the afternoon starting around 2 ish, although this will depend on what we are doing. Perhaps you could try reducing daytime naps, although don't know by how much and try getting him a bit more tired before bed-lots of energetic games etc. Is he crawling or walking yet? If not he'll prob get more tired when he starts getting around. The one thing that has helped us with our LO is co-sleeping, although I know lots of people don't like the idea. As long as you follow the guidelines I feel babies sleep better when they are with the people they feel safe around and when they have "good sleep" modelled for them. We willl bring DS into our bed when he wakes for his milk if he won't go back in his cot and result is we are a lot less tired!!!!

DD 10mths old. Only has 1 nap in the day now (dropped morning one about 2 wks ago). Usu sleeps from 12.30 till 2 or 2.30ish.
V lucky though cos she sleeps 7 till 7 every night, so therefore doesn't need so much in the day. I would think you need to cut down on daytime naps to make night sleep better.

Easier said than done though, i know.

Good luck xx

Thank you. It does seem that perhaps I might need to adjust his day time naps a bit. He has to fit in around ds1 what with playgroup etc. Poor second babies!
