My DD slept through the night (11 to 12 hours) from 16 weeks in her cot in her own room. Recently this has all changed.......

We have just been away for 2 weeks and she was ill for 8 days of that (vomiting and diarrhoea). During this time she was waking all the time and it took a good few days before i could get her to sleep in cot as opposed to in bed with me.

Once the diarrhoea and vomiting had stopped she was eating all the time to make up for the 8 days that she didn't eat properly. Now, however, it's almost 2 weeks since the diarrhoea and vomiting stopped and although we are back home and she is back on her normal feeding routine during the day, she is waking 2 or 3 times a night. I'm not entirely sure why - not convinced it's always for food. Sometimes she seems to have wind (she never had this problem before), other times she does take a little bit of food before going back to sleep and other times she falls asleep again in my arms but won't go back in cot.

Has anyone had a similar experience and can offer some advice???? I'd love to get DD back to sleeping all night again. Thanks and sorry for the long post

Opps - can't do my maths! She slept through the night from 12 weeks (3 months) so was well established at sleeping through before this all happened.

Thanks Swizzler. I had a look but (correct me if I'm wrong) these babies seem not to have slept well at all ever whereas my DD did sleep well and I am wondering if the illness/travelling unsettled her and that is why she doesn't well anymore (she is happy and content during the day).

it varies - DS has never slept well but others found that sleep went haywire at 4/5 months.
Good luck - it is tiring but It Will Pass

My child slept through from 6-14 weeks then she has been waking 2/3 times a night too since then. She is now 5 months and at least the wakings have got shorter. Hoping that once she is on protein she might sleep through again. My DH wants to do CC but I've put my foot down but I think he is worried now I am so sleep deprived. I think she is waking for food and my BM is not keeping her going enough, trying her on solids but she is not that interested and I think it stops her taking milk during the day. My daughter is a bit too interested in the world to feed during the day I think and so feeds at night. It is very common, lets hope it ends soon.

Thank you Swizzler. I must confess that I didn't read the whole of the thread as it was so long (500+ entries I saw) and I just didn't have the time!

Sorry to hear about your experience Tapster - you must be exhausted and it is SO frustrating when they have slept through the night and then stop. I agree with you on the CC point - I can't bring myself to do that either.

To be honest, I don't think my DD is waking for food - I think she is unsettled after her illness, being away for 2 weeks and the aeroplane trips. I'm hoping within a week or so she'll be back in her normal night routine as during the day she eats fine and is happy and content. Who knows?!
