Toddler bed or single bed?

Ds is nearly 2.6, has never tried to climb out of his cot but will need to sleep in a single bed on holiday in July.

Now seems as good a time as any to move him as he is settled in all other respects.

Am interested in what you all did and if you bothered with a toddler bed or just went straight to a single bed. Also if you went for the single bed, then did you use a bed guard?

And what about the duvet/gro bag issue?

Argghhh!!!!

hi bean

also just got ordinary duvet and pillow - allergy one from next

i had a bed guard with dd1 but didnt bother with dd2, she has never fallen out

Thanks np. Am inclined to go for the single bed with guard, if needed, but I think the real question in the back of my mind is, "are toddler beds something you buy for your first but know better about next time?"!!!

when i used a bedguard with dd1 she didnt realise for AGES that she could get out of bed on her own - one very good reason to use them

good luck x

DS1 went straight to a single bed at 2.3, We put a bed guard on the side like this one . We kept DS1 in his sleeping bag for a while until he got used to the bed (also stopped him getting out when he woke up) and then moved to the duvet. Toddler beds are cute but perhaps not the best use of money, especially once you facture in the cost of bed linen. BTW we got a 3 foot wide bed so DH or I can get in to read a story or give a cuddle on a bad night.

we have cotbeds and just took off the sides. moved from sleeping bag to duvet then - but put the duvet on the bed the "wrong" way - tucking it under the mattress to reduce risk of falling out at night. my 2 are getting bunkbeds next month (they're nearly 7 and nearly 4)

both went straight into a single bed with a bedguard. We used duvets and pillows. Thinking about what np said about dd never fallen out, didn't bother with bed guard. Our 5 yo is still prone to falling out, only once in a blue moon. However on holiday, we didn't have a bedguard. just sheets and blankets, and neither of them fell out at all.

bundle, whatever you do don't buy the metal bunks. They are so damn noisy, especially when they use them like a climbing frame and insist on bouncing on the top bunk. We are just in the process of changing to pine.

i liked the fact that they can convert into two 3 foot single beds - and the price includes the mattresses

Thet are really nice, unfortunately for us Argos is cheaper and for an extra tenner we can also have a third bed underneath. (both bunks split into singles as well.) was thinking along the lines of sleepovers.
