Sleep

Any tips on shifting the block of sleep to suit our routine?

My DD (she surely is now!!) ) sleeps very well 11 - 11 1/2 hours per night. The only gripe I have is its between 6 30 pm and 6 am. I find it quite an early start. I don't give her her breakfast until 7 in an attempt to stop her from starting her day then. I do change her nappy and give her some toys or a cuddle with me. I have also cut back on her day time sleeps but is so whaked by 6.15 pm it's hard to keep her up for milk. Does any onehave tips on how to shift her to a 7 - 7 am? Or do I just have to shift my lazy ass out from the duvet

Why are you cutting back on afternoon nap?

Also - when she wakes at 6 - can you not just lift her into your bed and snuggle for an hour?

I think you need to let her sleep longer/later in the day, if you want her to go to bed later and therefore wake later. Be warned however some children just are early risers and all one does by keeping them up is tern them into grumpy early risers

cutting back on the afternoon nap will not get her to sleep more at night - in fact, you may find that if you let her sleep properly in the afternoon, whe will sleep better at night.

Would just not get her up at 6. Would keep trying to settle her in her cot until it was 7 am. Wouldn't make eye contact, talk, switch lights on or anything.
May feel like a lot of stress for the sake of only 1 hour, but it worked for ds1 (admittedly took a couple of weeks).
Still do the same thing when he (only very occasionally) wakes before 7.

I'd agree...longer lunch time nap (that's not much for 10months I'd say) my DS's were having at least 2hrs/2half hrs. She'd then stay awake till 7 and hopefully start sleeping later in the morning.

Also leave her a little longer every morning before you go in, just extend it a few minutes, and try to get her to lie happily in her cot for a while on waking (although if very hungry this can be very difficult)

Good Luck

Laugh at the thought of a snuggle...more like pull my hair, nose, jump on my boobs then try to dive out of the bed!! I read in the book not to be mentioned that at 9 -12 months cutting back on sleep during the day can prevent earlier waking so I've been persevering seemingly wrongly!! Never mind. I'll let her sleep longer and see what happens. I'm just a grumpy morning person and ideally would like her to be able to get up, fix her own breakfast and bring me a cup of tea (joke)but remain a cutesy baby! Thankyou for all the advice much appreciated.

cut down morning nap, not the afternoon one, if you reduce the morning to a cat nap of 20 mins, she will hopefully sleep later in the afternoon one and therefore be able to stay awake until 7pm, don't bath her too early either. HTH
