Sleep

9 month old. Please help, I'm getting down about it

Probably more of a 'letting it out' post and having a cry thing than expecting advice, but any welcome.

Dh and I both work full time. We have a 3 year old who luckily sleeps 7-6ish. She slept through consistently from 9 months.
Ds still wakes for a feed. I could cope with that just about, but now he is waking at 5 as well, often for the day. He expects milk too and drains it. Sometimes he will cat nap for a bit afterwards.

He has 2 naps a day at home. Mostly only one at nursery (it's just too noisy/stuff going on). We've had a horrendous 6 weeks. Croup, colds, coughs, Hand foot and mouth and a sickness bug. I'm stressed about the time we've had to take off even though we've had a day or two from family who live about an hour away.

I think I'm slipping into depression. All i want to do at the end of the day is sit in front of the Tv and have a drink (i try not to drink during the week and only have max of 2). I dont have the energy to exercise ( having been a 3 hours a week minimum type right up to end of mat leave). I'm also more withdrawn, eat crap as I don't have the energy to plan and I think I'm developing an online shopping habit that could turn into a problem. I'm miserable.

Sorry. I'm not myself. I have his 9 month check this week so could talk to hv. Not sure what the solution is. Ride it out I guess. Haha

I'm so sorry you feel like this.Flowers

You sound like me six months ago! My dd was a terrible sleeper and it caused what looking back could have been classed as depression but was probably sleep deprivation . I don't really have any advice as things naturally got better around one year with sleep and hey presto my mood lifted.

I have recently had a miscarriage and I felt terrible and like I couldn't possibly do anything let alone exercise. But yesterday despite feeling tired I went for a short run and I was surprised how much I could manage and I really did feel better for it Maybe try a little bit of exercise just to see how you go.

And yes probably worth mentioning to your hv how you are feeling.

You are by no means alone feeling like this and you will get through it.

Neither my 3 yr old nor my 6 month old are sleeping properly at the moment. I'm so low too. You have my utmost sympathy. I too feel fat, frumpy, too dependent on nightly G and Ts and I haven't run for ages. I'm trying to do half an hour of yoga every other day and at least get out for a walk. It sounds like your back at work though. They say this will pass but it's utterly soul (and body) destroying, isn't it?

Any can drop the second nap? Can he go to bed later?

I know, it's brutal.

Well done for going for that run! Exercise really helps nut I know it can sometimes be impossible. Can you exercise during your lunch break? Obviously depends on your job but a lot of my colleagues do.

Massive massive hugs.

My own 8mo DS has only just started to improve (still not what most people would call a good sleeper though).

It's only now I'm coming out if it that I can see how sad/mad/bad I was. Sleep deprivation is an absolute fucker.

I have no advice sorry, we haven't cracked it here either - but well done for your self awareness. I think that's a great step toward helping yourself Smile

No advice, sorry - another one clinging on by her fingertips here - but massive sympathy. Well done on getting out for the run, it's more than I've managed for weeks!

I was nearly psychotic when DD was about 4 months old. I ended up on sertraline (anti ds). She isn't a great sleep at nearly a year old but I feel OK now. I'm not saying you need to go on medication but I would consider talking to your GP. My HV wasn't great but if your is better talk to her too. xx
