Hi, My question is - what do you do about safety at nap-time? I don't think I'll have room to move it away and put the side back - is there some other solution?
I'm thinking about getting one for my 11m dd as I'm keen for her to learn that cots are for sleeping in (co-sleeping in our bed up to now at night and Amby in day). At the moment she thinks they are wonderful places to pull up in and cruise round! She needs to know about cots because its time to go back to work (groan) and childminder to care for her, and she's definately growing out of the Amby.
Any tips?

Sorry - I might be missing something, but why wouldn't you have room to move side of the cot back up? Mine just goes straight up and down, you don't have to move the actual cot away from the bed. (Mine's a Brio/Global one btw).

Ooh thanks mamaloco - maybe I'm being thick! I thought that the side stored underneath so that it sort of swung from upright to horizontal through an arc (does that make sense?) so needed a wider space than the cot.
I'll be so chuffed if that isn't true! I did ask in John Lewis but the lady looked at me as if I was mad when I mentioned the concept of 'bedside cot'. Maybe the wrong shop!

you have to search high and low for the right one

could you leave the side halfway up? probably not due to her age

Sounds like just 'bedside cot' isn't good enough then. It has to be a Brio. There is one on Ebay that isn't a million miles away but Dp wanted to get new to save hassles with instructions/allen keys etc, so then its Mothercare or Mamas and Papas. I shall ring them up and ask for more details.

I have the mothercare one - the side stows away under the cot but also drops about a foot

I think it all depends on how high your bed is in relation to the cot. Manufacturers reccommend that you put the base to the lowest setting once they can stand/pull themselves to their feet.

Maybe you should get an ordinary cot which you can place beside your bed which has a dropside
