Hi all,

I'm always been an observer on mumsnet but recently become a mum and am looking for some advice.

My little boy is 6 weeks old. He is brilliant at night, goes to bed at around 6.30pm after a bath and feed, we then dream feed at 10pm and he is then feed up at 3am before waking up at 6am (due to husband workin hours we wake this early so it works for us that we have an earlier bedtime and an early morning).

The problem I have (and we have had since he was a couple of weeks old) is that daytime naps are so difficult as he just seems to fight it all the time. I know he needs sleep (not only to grow) as he gets get grizzly as the day goes on.

We initially tried not to hold him or bounce etc when he was a couple of weeks however as the weeks went on we've also tried it (just so he could at some sleep) without success.

Would love to get some advice as to what others have tried or any suggestions!

Does he not nap at all during the day?

He does and I've kept a record of it and there isn't any pattern. Today has been a good day and he has had 3 hours sleep so far. His sleepy cues have been very obvious today and he has settled within 20 minutes of popping him in his Moses.

However yesterday he had 1.5 hours in the morning and that was it for the day. He took an hour to fall asleep for the 1.5 hour nap as well. As you can imagine by his bedtime he was very grumpy due to lack of sleep!

How about trying a dummy?

I also found that rhythmically foot bouncing a bouncy chair can help
