Sleep

Naptime worries

My 12-week-old sleeps pretty well at night and can usually settle himself but during the day is a different matter! He generally naps 3/4 times a day but so far I've never managed to put him down awake and have him settle. He needs rocking in my arms or will sleep in the carrier. Occasionally he falls asleep in the car but generally hates car travel! He seems better now I'm enforcing a bit more napping (I read some books about it last week!) but I can't ever see a time he'll settle himself! I'm not adverse to letting him cry a bit but he just gets himself more and more worked up so generally not worth it. Any ideas???! Will he eventually just 'get it' or am I making things difficult for myself with all the cuddling to sleep? Confused

Does he have a dummy or cuddle blanket? Gave my son both and he associated them with pram /cot +sleep! Rocking /cuddling to sleep is fine if u still want to be doing it in a year or twos time!!

No help here, my one year old has never gone to sleep independently. I wish I'd tried harder before he could move!

I definitely want to avoid that!! Yes trying lullabies and a toy to make 'sleep associations' and he does take a dummy but doesn't really keep it in. Trying to get him down for at least one sleep in his cot. I guess I just need to persevere...

Mine is almost 6 months and can sometimes settle herself, sometimes not... Every day is different! I generally give her some time, maybe 20 mins to see if she can settle herself to sleep (going to her if she cries and popping her dummy in etc) but I don't try for longer than that as if she's not asleep by then it generally means she's not going to do it by herself and we both end up stressed!! 12 weeks is still super young and things will probably all change around 4 months so don't stress too much!! I didn't even both trying to put my DD in her cot for naps until she was about 16 weeks
