How do we get DS in his crib?

DS is 13 weeks (8 weeks corrected) bottle fed although not from birth. He has severe silent reflux and mild cmpi. He is neocate and rantidine gaviscon. He has never really slept well unless upright. The only place he would sleep for a short period early evening till about 2/3am was his pram carry cot. He will not settle at am in his crib on his back. I have had a sling which has been invaluable during the day, out and about as I have a 4 year old too. He has been sleeping on me and my husband more and more. However he is now not settling in his carry cot either now and will only settle when picked up. I go to bed at 9-10 and up at 3 when I swap with my husband. We are currently shifting in the lounge. We have two bedroom bungalow and rooms quite close together as DS has been disturbing dd. I start my day at 3/4 as he will not settle on his own after this. He won't settle in our bed as won't be flat on his back. However his naps are falling to pot too as he won't settle on his own. Occasionally he will nod off in his bouncy chair but will only nap for 20 mins at a time , after becoming over tired. He wakes himself up and if we put him down he wakes himself up too! Obviously we need to try and get him sorted however his reflux is not sorted although slightly better and his was premature in scbu for 17 days. What do we do? I tired and DH is we haven't slept in same bed for weeks. However we can't let him scream it induces horrendous reflux episode ( we have done this) however he can't sleep on us. My DH has stag dos and work conferences coming up so I need to he some sleep. His crib is raised and makes no difference. Dd had reflux it slept with us and was in her crib settling for part of the night by now. Any ideas advice welcome! Does his prematurity feature? He doesn't like tummy and his head control isn't great - I think due to prematurity. We have a plan with his reflux consultant led. But have the feeling this is as good as it will get.

In a America a child died falling asleep in a bouncer. It's advise due to the positioning it can afliate their airways not to let them sleep in there. My DF mother was telling me the same for car seats. For the reflux could they try alternative medicine we got drops that go into the bottle. My DS was a nightmare at first to sleep in the crib but during the day I kept putting him down once he slept every time and eventfully he did settle. Does he have a dummy?

We haven't needed to try it so no first hand experience but a friend with a baby that sounds similar to yours on the reflux swore by cranial osteopathy. Is that something that you could look into perhaps? Hopefully it gets better soon for you all

Well it's a chair bouncer that lays quite flat and we check him, I am fully aware of the risks but it's not for extended periods, better he's in the room with me napping rather than in another room on his own. Alternative medicine doesn't work he coughs gags brings up milk screams, chokes scratches face, fusses after feeding for good 30 mins or so. This is mild irritating reflux. He won't really take a dummy he has one but Spits it out after a few minutes

Sorry meant to say this isn't mild reflux it's severe. We have had one session of cranial but he was quite distressed during and after but maybe we could try again

Sorry if I'm reading your op wrong but it's normal for babies that young to not settle in their cot but to fall asleep feeding or being bounced. Ds will only sleep in his crib if I put him down already in a deep sleep.

No that's fine but he wakes up and startles if we put him down and won't resettle unless picked up and sleep on us. Obviously he is young but wary of installing bad habits as he won't now settle in his carry cot at all whereas was before

My ds had very bad Moro reflex & used to constantly wake himself up. I used a cocoon type swaddle & that worked really well. I know swaddling isn't recommended anymore but it was a life saver for me. The swaddle was a zip up so very easy to use.

Sorry, just rereading - not sure if swaddle will help with the reflux but might help with the snugness & feeling of being held.
I have also put a small towel under ds mattress to raise his head up a bit which may help the reflux.
Can you join a baby massage class? That's also a good way of encouraging sleep.
Good luck, this stage won't last forever. I don't think you need to worry about bad habits when he's so young.

Dd had awful reflux as well, we had a crib that we could angle, and we swaddled. It was the only way she would sleep lying flat.

Have you tried a reflux cot wedge?

You need to tilt his cot or Moses basket at one end.

Mine was the same put a couple of chucks of wood under two legs raise it by 4 or 6 inches or so it really helped. Stopped any acid creeping back up

Thanks but as said his crib is tilted by 3 books he still doesn't like it and won't lie on his back without coughing choking gagging every 10 mins . We are looking at a wedge is there one better than other? We looked at a clevemama one?

My DS1 didn't have reflux and never ever slept in his Moses basket. He just hated it.

Mega expensive but I would have spent anything for a decent nights sleep. Baby tilted slightly so might help with reflux. Hope something works, I know how miserable it is sitting up with a baby who only sleeps on you.

Thanks he isn't great with his tummy! Surprising I thought he might! Not sure if his prematurity has anything to do with it he still startles very easily

Op if it's severe go back to your GP my DH as a baby he projectile vomited constantly he had to have an operation after that he was a different baby.

You need to go back to your doctor. He may need his medication adjusting or further investigations

Yes he's on neocate rantidine and gaviscon, maximum dose of rantidine. Omprezole is next then domperidone they are reluctant to prescribe due to the bad press of heart problems. He has a very soft padded bouncer it adjusts 4 reclines and one is almost flat. It's silent reflux not projectile vomiting. My dd had it but was under control by now. We are private consultant led also.

Is it reflux of prematurity? 8 weeks adjusted is still pretty little. Has he put weight on?
