Why is my baby so loud at night?

My DS is 6 weeks old, and sleeps beautifully during the day. At night, though, it's another story. He sleeps but he strains and grunts and is gassy all night, to the point where the neighbours (we're in a flat) can hear him. He's a little bit awake during these times, but pick him up and he falls right back to sleep.

My question is why is he so noisy and gassy at night when during the day he's fine?

I don't know the answer but remember it well! DS2 would spend the second part of the night grunting and groaning and I was crazily googling trying to find out why! I even recorded him once to show the HVShock
Looking back I think it must be something to do with their stomach maturing a bit. As he got older it just stopped and he never does it now at 9 months.

Both my boys were like this. They grew out of it by about 12 weeks. I used to wear earplugs! It was like sleeping in a farmyard. Grunting constantly!

Hanks for the responses! The midwife said she agreed - just a developmental thing. But yes to earplugs! It's so noisy!

Mine was like this too, we solved it by using Infacol together with getting much better at burping her. I'm not sure why it's worse at night, but mine seemed like that too.

Mine is 4 weeks old and does the same. Grunty and straining all night. Doesn't sleep unless he's being cuddled. My entire nights sleep us 6am to 9am. I've been reassured that it will pass soon!
