Sleep

4 month old daytime naps

My 4 month old little boy used to nap regularly throughout the day. He had 4 or 5 cat naps of about 45 minutes after an awake time of about an hour and half. Most of these naps I rocked him to sleep or in his swing or he would be out about in the pram. He can't self settle during the day although is starting to at night.
However for the last three days he has fought me on every single nap to the point he is crying hysterically. I have tried playing around with the timings to see if I was catching him too late and he is overtired but it seems to make no difference. He just cries and battles against it. Is he expected to drop some naps at this age? He sleeps for 12 hours at night (7pm to 7am) with a feed before I go to bed and another feed around 5/6 hours later.
Am I missing something? He has never cried at nap times until now so I'm finding it hard to deal with.
Thanks

Around this age babies tend to be affected by external stimuli which can prevent them from sleeping. They no longer do the 'sleep anywhere anytime' that newborns do.

All of mine needed a dark room with white noise to settle and nap during the day. 1.5 hrs (on average) is around the usual wake time at this age. Short naps are common meaning 4 (sometimes 5!) naps a day.

For me I had to build a constant routine of top up bf, lullaby and rock before settling in cot.

my 4mo is doing the exact same thing! she will be 17 weeks old on friday and the last week has been hellish compared to our usual relaxed daytime naps.
I am worried she is going to be over tired and hard to deal with so i get anxious about naps and then it rubs off on her - vicious cycle!
Today I have wrapped her up put her in her pram, popped white noise on and put her in the hall which is cooler than the rest of the house, she closed her eyes within 30seconds and is still sleeping (ten minutes already and thats amazing compared to the last few days!)

Keep with it, This must be the 4m sleep regression i keep reading about.
Great that he is sleeping a good 12 hours at night! Well done you!

My DD is 14 weeks and really fighting daytime naps. She used to be so good. I've had a breakthrough today though. I've put her coat on her for naps. Sounds strange I know but she just really likes to be wrapped up but at the same time she hates her arms being restricted. Coat does the job! She's currently alseep in her pram which hasn't happened for over a week Shock
