Putting something with my smell in the cot

We tried this with one of my nightdresses last night and I'm going to switch this to a small muslin cloth after I sleep with it for a few nights.

where should this be placed in the cot? Do I keep replacing every few days with a new one?

Depends how old baby is.
I used a tshirt which I rotated - one being worn - swapped for one in cot at each feed through the night. I lay it down, tucked it in like a sheet (use a big tshirt!) and lay baby on the warm surface

What Martha said.

I just used to use the T shirt I had been wearing that day, and change nightly.

Was recommended to me by a vet friend! Farmers use stare from the mother sheep/pig/cow pen if a baby needs to be removed for whatever reasons. Worked very well for my baby (human).

Sorry should have said he is 6.5 months old and in big cot

Oh well in that case just let him have the muslin. Be careful to rotate at least half a dozen though, in case he gets attached to it/them.

I used to use my pillow case. I had three - one on my pillow, one (unwashed) one in the cot and then one in the wash
