Sleep

baby won't nap – and not tired either

My seven month old baby has been harder and harder to put to sleep for nap times (not so much at night) over the last few weeks. Today I finally gave in and got on with our normal routine after lying quietly with him for an hour and a half (his usual nap period) while he continuously tried to roll over and babble contentedly. It's as if he's not tired at all! He's not even grumpy. In fact, he has been in a brilliant mood all day – and it's 6 PM now, and I only managed to get a 40 minute nap out of him at 11. Apart from that he has been up since about seven this morning.

What is going on? If it weren't for the fact that everything I read says that he needs about two to three hours time to nap during the day, I would have thought that I need to cut down to one nap per day.

Ps, we co-sleep, even at naptimes because at night I study while he sleeps for half the night,so I use his naptimes to catch more sleep with him. He also does not sleep through the night yet - but this doesn't bother me due to the co-sleeping. Just in case this information helps.

Every baby is different. My eldest was having one nap, at 1pm, at that age.

My dd gave up naps except for an occasional one at about 4 months! Never seemed particularly tired. Wasn't irritable and nodding off like some babies do. She is now 6 and thrives on less sleep than a lot of her peers.
Doesn't always sleep through the night though... Is rather fond of creeping into our bed!
