DS went to bed at 7 - fed to sleep, waited 15 minutes, put in cot. He has never wanted to be put down and the transfer can be delicate to say the least. But he is 5mo now i neeeed to be able to put him down.

Cooking dinner and i hear a wail. Then quiet. Then a gurgle . Peek round the door and he's on his side chatting to his 'boofle' (blankie thing). I wait, hear him chatting and yawning. Tiptoe away. Go up 10 minutes later and he's asleep!! Self settled all on his own!! (told husband who said 'oh' and 'are you expecting me to say something?' twat)

He's woken again since then and needed winding but even so!! Momentous occasion (husband......'is it?') so had to share here.

I remember when ds2 did this for the first time at around 4 - 5 mo. He had gone to sleep with me shush patting him but woke a an hour or so later. I went up to him but before I went in I could hear him making his 'comfort' noise (a strange continuous open mouthed humming sound.....) And he fell back to sleep! It definitely feels like a momentous occasion when it happens, even if it is just a one off - it's nice to know that they can do it, even if they don't want to the majority of the time..... Well done baby notta!

I get it too. Great progress

You will understand my excitement at my 4 ur old finally using her gro clock and telling me "I goed back to sleep mummy when I saw the stars were still on my clock"

After 4 years of bad nights then 5am wake ups, that's a miracle.

Thanks, its nice when others get it! Husband attempted to settle him back to sleep last night and got a tiny taste of how hard it can be.

Led wow! Progress indeed! You must be thrilled - long may it last.
