Controlled crying for day time nap??

Hi there

I am new to the site and joined to hopefully get some advice along the line!! My first (but probably not my last!!) issue is daytime napping.

My daughter is 7 months old and has been pretty much sleeping through from 4 weeks old. However, she is still at the side of my bed and needs nursing to sleep.

During the day she likes 2-3 sleeps but will only sleep whilst being held. I can't get anything done because she's demanding of your presence whilst she is awake. I have read up on the controlled crying and am currently trying to get her to sleep in her own room during the day. She has been crying for over 2 hours even though I keep going up as advised to reassure her I'm there. I'm worried that I will knock the nighttime routine by trying this?? Also how long should I leave her before saying enough is enough? This is only day 1!

Any tips/advice would be welcomed!!

Cheers

Kat x

When I did CC (but at 9 months old) I was told that when doing nap times never leave them any longer for an hour - and I even thought this was too long. I was told that if DS hadn't fallen asleep within that time frame then I was to 'get him up' and try again later.

Put her in a sling?

If she's not able to sleep, maybe she needs to drop the extra sleep. Mine was having 1 sleep a day by 7 months

She's been crying for 2 hours. Poor thing.

Will she fall asleep in a pram? Or a sling as PP suggested?

2 hours is a long time for a baby to be crying even if you're going back in periodically, especially as you have always stayed with her up to this point.

Katejir78 Controlled Crying isn't recommended for a baby under 12 month old.

Have you considered staying with her to reassure her and sooth her - but with her staying in the cot and not being picked up.

It is kind of a middle ground when teaching her to sleep independently, but not leaving her to scream alone. If you stay with her - shushing, patting, stroking, tickling - whatever it takes to reassure and sooth as much as possible. Eventually she will fall asleep but this way you have less reason to feel guilty since you will be with her trying to teach and reassure her at all times.
