6month old holds hand to sleep

Hi, as per the title really, my 6 month DD always needs to hold my fans to get to sleep. It's very sweet but sometimes I get a really achy, numb arm over the side of the cot waiting for her to be asleep so I can sneak my hand away. If i do it too soon she stirs and reaches out for it. Any ideas how I can break this habit? I've tried replacing hand with a comforter but as yet no luck!

Anyone had any experience of this? Thank you!

My ds who is now 10 months used to like this. We progressed from patting him to sleep to hand holding at around 5 months then from about 8 months I stopped holding his hand and just sat next to him. The way I did it was to hold his hand until he was relaxed then I would let go, if he got upset I would give him back my hand then let go again once calm. Repeated until he fell asleep. Didn't take long. Now if he does hold my hand at all (rarely) he pushes it away himself after a couple of minutes of fiddling with my wedding ring and goes to sleep!

I often do this with 2.5yo.... Can you get into a comfier position..? I often prob the hand holding arm up with the other arm.
I'm very lazy - I'd rather have ten mins of discomfort if it gets him to sleep quick....

Take the side off the cot and butt it up to your bed.
