Do babies naturally adapt to nursery's nap routine?

I'm interested to know how well other people's babies napped when they started nursery - and whether they naturally adapted to the nursery's routine or you had to make changes at home?

My nine month old currently has two half hour sleeps a day (given up trying to extend them, she's full of energy and sleeps 12 hours at night). She's starting nursery next week where most babies have a two hour nap after lunch. Should I try to get her doing this at home now, or will the nursery staff do it for me?! Or will she naturally start to do what the other babies do?

My DD naturally adapted to the nurseries sleep schedules at nursery and was an angel. At home she remained a terror. HthWink

If she's a 30 minute sleeper I don't think nursery will be able to make her do anything. Surely in a baby room they will follow her routine rather than impose theirs?

She's quite young to have just the one long sleep so could you ask the nursery if they would put her down at the usual times?

My Ds started nursery at 1 and even then I felt he was not quite ready for just one long sleep - but he coped fine and did sleep there alongside the other babies (don't underestimate nursery workers and them getting babies to sleep - it's like witchcraft!). He was very tired the first few weeks though.

On the weekends / my day off I kept him to two naps to try to let him 'catch up'. But by around 13-14 months he was comfortably on one 2 hour nap.

I tried and tried with my DC1 to get her to adapt to a routine in the weeks leading up to nursery (at 6mo) and couldn't get her to do it.

She started nursery (4 full days per week) and...bingo. She adapted. Also picked up some other developmental milestones very quickly as a result of being with the other babies.

Depends on the child, of course.

Our nursery put my 10 month old down at his regular morning/afternoon times.

I know most of the older babies have one long sleep and I asked them about this and they said they know him well enough now to know he still needs to sleep twice.

I find that my dd (18mo) has a routine in nursery but it is different from home. Shes always napped 30 mins on the dot once a day from an early age. However there was never a set time.
At nursery she goes for a nap of 30-60 mins at the same time as the other babies. However at home there's no set time but she naps longer!!!

Oh yes of course they will follow her routine to begin with. I just hate to think of her missing out on activities because her sleep times are different. Plus I would love it if she would merge her two tiny, hardly-worth-the-bother naps into one longer one! She does still get tired mid morning though so we'll see.

You'll probably find her naps will start to merge into one. I think my dd must have noticed the other babies napping after lunch in nursery so thought she's missing out and joined them!!

im sure your baby will sleep when he wants to and when hes ready to wake he will at nursery if its nap time they will do there nap time routine but if your baby is still awake at nap time and is fighting it by crying in cot they wont leave him to cry they will comfort him and if baby stops and seems in a playful mood they will take him to the toy corner/room... to be honest you just know if a child has a tired cry or a i dont want to be here cry...

When she started they asked about routine but she didn't have a nap time. She adapted to their nap time and now that's what I do on my day off. She never sleeps aslong at home at nursery
