Sleep

Is it always this hellish?

Ds2 has just had approx 4 hours sleep all up, last night. Ds1 was equally a horrid sleeper. I did want to have another baby, but literally couldn't do this again. Is it always this awful? And how can a 5 month old cope with such little sleep? He doesn't have long daytime sleeps either. God, I am so exhausted I could sob. This makes no sense, I am aware.

Just tried to let him settle himself for his first daytime sleep (sleep deprived brain thinking this might help the daytime waking) Cue much screaming, tears and snot. After an hour, I gave in. NOt good. Bah, think the second time around I would know what I am doing! Apparently not....

And now he is awake after only 40 mins. I need a holiday.

No idea what the problem is, but (at the risk of repeating myself on different threads) have a look at controlled comforting on google. There's a book/DVD called It's Time to Sleep as well...

DD woke every 3 hours til 2am then every hour afterwards. I can really relate to your exhaustion Bouj... back at work 4 days a week now too and it is killing me. Going down with every bug circulating which is why I'm home now!

I don't know what to do (DD is nearly 11 mths). She has never been a good sleeper but used to just wake the once around 3 which was manageable. She doesn't sleep well during the day at nursery so is really overtired when she gets home and just wants to use my boobs as a dummy. Won't take the real thing and I am desperate to cut down on bf. At least she is at nursery now so I can try to sleep (ignoring washing, ironing, dusty stairs, last nights washing up.....) Zzzzzzzzzzz

BOuj - just wanted to add your next baby might be completely different ( if you ever have another). DD1 has always been a bad sleeper, but dd2 is a dream, so easy, totally different, and that was such as surprise as we'd been expecting them to be the same.
