Hi there, my baby is 11 months old and has a nap at about 9am until 10am and one at 12 noon until 1pm, but I have noticed he is getting very irratable towards the end of the day, should he be having more sleep, what about an afternoon cat nap? Does anyone have any tips? He goes to bed at 7pm.

I'd say 2 but longer than an hour. Can you keep him awake more in the mornings, take him to an activity or for a walk, so that he sleeps from say 10/10.30 and then again after lunch ? How early is he up ?

By 10 months DS had one afternoon nap (2hrs) and slept 12 hours at night.

Sounds about the same as my DD at that age. By around 12 months she had cut out the morning nap completely and just had one daytime nap of around two hours after lunch.

Maybe you could cut down the length of the morning nap so he will sleep a bit longer in the afternoon? Might help him last until bedtime?

At 11 months DS seemed to need either one 2 hour nap after lunch or, hellishly, nothing at all. Afternoon cat naps were a disaster for us, he'd either sleep for hours or we'd wake him after 30 mins and he'd be worse than having had no sleep. But every child is different.

wow! you get 2 naps a day?!!
My DS is 11mo as well and mostly we get one around midday and like your DS he's a cranky pants by dinner time. Sometimes on really really good days he has 2 naps. One in the later afternoon, but if it;s too late then he's not tired at bedtime. You can't win!!

Mine is nearly 11 months and just changing from 30 mins twice a day to 1 hours at lunchtime instead

it's a gradual change - some days are 2 naps, some days 1

woodstock my ds & dd at this age had one at noon or so for 1 1/2to 2hrs. if you shortened his first nap to 1/2hr and stretch ed his next nap to 12.30 you might get a bigger noon nap and also a gradual switch over to one big day nap which should hhave him ok for bad at 7.
what time is he up, if he naps for an hour at 9?

Hi

My son is 10.5 mths
He wakes at aprox 7am-
Morning nap aprox 10am - 11.20 ( he has aprox 1hr 20mins- somtimes longer)
Afternoon nap is normally about 2.30/3pm & its normally about the same- 1-1.5 hrs- then bed around 7pm.

some days his naps are bad, he will wake after 40 mins, but he will still have 2- but id say- 90% of the time he will stick to this-
id say keep your little one up till maybe 10am ish-maybe even 10.30 if you can..... then give lunch- maybe o for a walk or somthing & try to not out down for the afternoon nap till 2.30- 3ish- I think your afternoon nap is too early & thats why hes getting cranky by dinner- if you make both naps later i think this will work? I dont think from what you said it sounds like hes ready to go to one nap.so to just make the other 2 later- you havent got that long afternoon with no sleep- I also agree that catnapping dosent work- they wake up worse than when you put them down
xx
