Sleep

Early Morning Waking

My 5 month old baby has slept from 8pm - 8am since he was 6 weeks old, but for the last couple of weeks he's been waking up at 6am wide awake and expecting to start the day. I realise this is probably a dream for some people but I don't sleep well, so when he's getting up at 6am I'm lucky if I've had 4 hours sleep myself and I have a very full-on 2yo who doesn't nap, so 14 hour day without stopping!

I don't think he's hungry as he'll grumble on and off for up to an hour before looking to be fed. His room is pretty dark as we have blackout curtains and I don't think its anything like too hot/cold/nappy etc.

I've tried seeing if he'd like more milk during the day, but he doesn't seem overly hungry, so I'm pretty sure it's not that.

He's on Nutramigen prescription formula as he has either a lactose intolerance or cows milk intolerance (still being investigated) and takes about 7oz roughly 4 bottles per day. He's been napping 45mins - 1.5 hours morning, 2.5 hours mid-day and 1/2-1 hour in afternoon.

The only thing I can think is that he is either waking and can't get back to sleep or he's sleeping too much during the day and simply isn't tired. I've tried to cut out his afternoon nap today to see if that helps, so we'll see how it goes. It's difficult though as he was up at 6am, had to nap by 8am (just as my 2yo was getting up!) and I had to let him sleep 'til 10.30am just so he wouldn't be overtired by mid-morning.

Has anyone any other ideas I havn't thought of/experienced the same? Thanks very much in advance.x
