Sleep

30 minute naps

Hi all, just a quick question. My nearly 6mo ds, besides a whole load of other problems including a cold at the mo, will only nap (when he does nap) for 30 minutes at a time. I've tried waking to sleep a la baby whisperer but this just wakes him up properly. I just wondered if this is a phase he'll grow out of and whether when he gets a bit older he'll go down for those elusive 1-2 hour naps I hear of?!? Anyone with any experience of the 30 minute nap? TIA

My DS does this every so often - in fact, I'm sure it was around 6 months. We had a lot going on and I think that affected him.
Wouldn't nap longer than 30 mins and would end up having 5 naps a day! I didn't try to change this, as I'm not sure anything would have worked.
It was short lived and he mainly sleeps longer now, with only the occasional cat nap.
Hang in there, it will hopefully just be a phase.

Would say it's just a phase. My LO went throu no naps, 40 mins, 20 mins, but today I had to it wake him from a 2 hour nap. It'll pass.

From about 4/5 months my ds has only napped for 45 mins at a time. He's 8 months and still does it.
Very very occasionally as in about 4 times in total, he naps for over and hour and I don't know what to do with myself. But he sleeps 12 hrs at night so I don't care.

I'm interested in this. Any ideas how to get baby to nap for longer? I think short naps may be one of the reasons my baby gets cranky and grumpy.

My ds did this constantly until he went down to one nap after lunch and then as if by magic slept for an hour and a half/two hours

Dd is exactly the same. She's 6 months and for the last 2 months she has had 3/4 30 minute naps a day. They are starting to stretch out a bit now and I find some of them will go for anything up to 1:15, but it's random so I count anything more than 30 mins as a bonus.

My five m.o has been the same for ages. He's just starting to take maybe one long nap a day, usually if he missed one. He can sleep for ages in the pushchair too. I'm hoping it's just a phase, but at least he's predictable! It's incredible what I can achieve in precisely 30 minutes.

Thanks for all your replies, it's good to know I'm not the only one!! It's so difficult isn't it, hoping its a phase that'll soon be over!
