Sleep

Nearly 2yo wide awake in night.

DS is normally a good sleeper, however tonight and a couple of weeks ago we've had hours of being wide awake in the middle of the night. His language is exploding at the moment, and his understanding is really coming on, is it another developmental leap or should we be 'doing' something? God knows what-he's self settled since he was a newborn and totally point blank refuses to sleep in our bed with us. He's currently in his cot, whinging and sporadically calling out 'mummy'...

My DD did the same and occasionally still does. She seems to settle better if DH goes to her when she first wakes up. With me she can end being so awake because she is so busy calling for me.

The good news is it is happening much less often now so I have put it down to a phase. I am also convinced it has something to do with full moons.

Sorry, not that helpful. I guess I would say try to leave him to it, tho I know its hard when they are keeping everyone awake.

Mine did that last night! 22 months. Also totally out of character, and she's also making leaps and bounds with the speech so I think there is something developmental going on.

I ended up taking her into the spare room and stroking her forehead until she looked relaxed and then asked her if she wanted to go to bed. She whispered "night night" and I took her back in. So adorable, if it wasn't 3 in the sodding morning.

He's exactly 22 months as well (almost to the day!) am bloody knackered this morning as I have a horrid cold and could have done with my 8 hours! He just wants to play-not hungry/wet/cold etc, just wants to TALK to me, and tell me things! He eventually went back off at about 4.30. Snarl. We might all have a nap this afternoon when he does!

Sympathy! I saw the timestamp on your post, I was up at the same time... mine (twins) are having first intro session at nursery today where I'm supposed to sit in the office in case they need me, might just ask if I can borrow a sleeping bag and curl up in the nap area...

Hope you get a sneaky sleep Smile DS is full of beans and smiles this morning and I am a wreck!!! Luckily DH is off today as well and we've got some people coming round so I don't have to entertain him all day by myself, as that would be a bit hard going!

My 20mo has been like this for a few weeks now. Similar to the others his speech is developing at an incredible rate and it's like he just wants to talk to me or have me near. The last two nights I have bit the bullet and just left him to it and he seems to have gone back to sleep quicker than if I had intervened so that's my plan from now on and hopefully it will phase out.

Well last night we had HOWLING at about 1.30am, really upset. So gave him a cuddle and some water and the he went straight back off. However he was very unsettled all night-kept moaning in his sleep which was a bit sad. He's had a cold as well so maybe that's affecting him too. Am bloody knackered though-DH had to get up for work at 4am BlushBlushBlushBlush

Sympathy over here. DS had an early language explosion at 18 months and we have been having issues ever since. Saturday saw him awake for four hours! Hoping he grows out of it!

Yup. 22 months & 4 days here! And awake in the night chatting. His language is amazing but not at 3am...

In a 'misery loves company' sort of way I'm glad we're not alone! Suddenly he understands EVERYTHING we say to him, and responds to it. This seems to have made him a bit anxious, Every-time one of us leaves the room he sobs Hmm it's a bit sad, and he's massively mummy-centric at the moment, which he isn't normally. Basically he just wants to sit on my head and give me rather bitey 'kisses'... Not very restful!

Oh god. My other one (other twin) has just started this nonsense as well - chicken noises at 5.40 this morning - I don't even mind if it means she starts talking more because she's been a bit slower than her sister to talk and is starting to chuck some absolutely epic tantrums as a result. WHY DON'T YOU ALL UNDERSTAND ME etc.

Last night he HOWLED at 4.30am-it was as if the world had ended. Went to give him a cuddle and he settled straight back off-I however was awake for the next hour whilst my blood pressure gradually returned to normal!! I have not had a single night this half term where either DH or DS HAVEN'T disturbed me. I am tempted to join a monastery, with a vow of silence.

I've been watching Salamander (Belgian cop drama partly set in a monastery) and I'm like, wow, that is the easiest life I can imagine! So they get up at 5.30 - I get up at 5.30!

It's like Russian roulette here, who will wake me up, and when and for what spurious reason... It's the unpredictable nature of it that I hate! Toddlers are just so full on-there's no way he can be awake and me not be...

Two hours for me last night. I sat in the corridor with his door open so he could see me and every time he got whiney and asked me to sit next to him or have a hug I calmly said that I was here and it was sleep time. I went with the reassuring but boring approach. Hoping it will work. Got six weeks before #2arrives. My only consolation is that he is advanced with his speaking.

Good luck for tonight everyone... DS settled off to sleep beautifully at bedtime, but then I went upstairs to get some nail varnish, which woke him up. Game. Over. He's now settled back and I'm too scared to go upstairs! Roll on the summer when we're moving into a brand new house that hopefully won't have squeaky floorboards!

Hit new low last night as I walked into a door getting up for the zillionth time for DS. Blood everywhere. So, so fed up.
