Cosleeping tot and wooden cot

DS (14 months) generally cosleeps and wakes every hour or so to bf. Amazingly this morning he has been sleeping solidly since 6am (1hr35), but taking up half of our larger-than-king bed. It has just occurred to me that maybe he cannot sleep in the cot because he keeps bumping himself awake (wooden cot).
I love cosleeping but it is more co-cuddling atm: we are not getting much sleep. Am wondering whether perhaps DS might sleep better in a bigger bed of his own rather than the cot. But how? He moves a lot when asleep so moontubes would not be enough, nor a bedguard. Is mattress on the floor the only solution?
