Have posted this under Behaviour thread too.......

Tom is a week old and basically wakes every 2-3 hours, feeds then goes back to sleep. Hardly any wakeful times at all. Should i be worried or simply make the most of it?

He was/is a little jaundiced so would this make a difference?

TIA X

Sounds just like my dd when she was newborn - shouldn't think it's anything to worry about.

Mine is 9 weeks now and still feeding every 3 hours. Just beginning (this week) to stretch it out a bit longer. It is normal. Babies need their sleep to grow.

He has only started to stay awake, for at least an hour, after a feed, in the past 3 weeks.

Friend I met in maternity ward is more or less the same.

Jaundice will not make a difference. Mine was too.
Dont worry!

Don't worry at all.
It's quite normal for them to sleep lots and lots, especially in the first 3 weeks or so and especially if they are a bit jaundiced.
Make the most of this time to rest and recuperate cos you won't know what has hit you when he wakes up properly at 3 weeks Grin
Only joking.

Make the most of it - presumably it's an evolutionary thing so mum gets a rest!

Very normal for a week old baby ... DD slept all the time ...
If you think about it, if a feed takes half an hour to an hour (depending on your baby - DD was a quick feeder but most babies take a while to feed) and a nappy change takes 10 minutes then the baby has been awake for an hour to an hour and a half which is quite tiring for him/her.
