We gradually transitioned from feeding, to rocking in the chair, to cuddling in his cot bed, now he settles fine most of the time , with the occasional head stroke/back rub. We still stay with him while he falls asleep but it doesn't take too long.
Same with DD2 (17 months) but feeding for bedtime and morning and no feeds for naps. She normally naps after lunch (about an hour), so I've either been out and about or cuddles her to sleep. Works well for us, as DD1 can have quiet time with me doing some reading/story telling.
Can you get someone else (DH or DM etc) to settle him for his nap for a couple of days while he gets used to no bf?
When we had this issue, we put DS down to nap in our bed and cuddled him to sleep, then transferred to his cot once asleep. Worked for us but you might not want to get him into a new habit like that - we love the bonus cuddles!
After managing to wean my 2 year old off morning and evening BF, I was left with his pre- nap BF, which had been a surefire way to get him to sleep. The last few days we were on holiday, and he had short kips in the car and no BF! Back home now, I have decided to stick with the no BF! But he is struggling with fatigue. This is a boy who desperately needs his afternoon nap. Today he pleaded for mommy mik, and I tried him in his cot, tried reading him to sleep, both to no avail. He managed the day with great difficulty. I could drive him to sleep, but I do not want to get into another bad habit.
Any suggestions for transitioning to napping without the breast? I am worried about tomorrow, as the little man has not had his share of rest for several days now. Help!
