Sleep

Another early riser and nothing seems to be working!

Have been reading the other posts on early risers but none of the suggestions are working for my 10 month old dd and am getting desperate...

Dd has always been an early riser but in the last few weeks its pushed to 5.30am and even 5.15am today. I can live with the early starts but dd is struggling to cope at nursery and am worried. Things I've tried that haven't made any difference:

-an earlier bedtime (dd is a poor daytime napper so often put to bed early)

  • a later bedtime (on the days dd has napped well)
  • no daytime nap later than 4pm (easy to achieve as often very few naps anyway)
  • morning nap not earlier than 9.30 (this is 4 hours after dd is up in the morning)
  • full bottle of milk when wakes and put back in cot (stays wide awake babbling then crying).
  • give dummy when wakes (ditto).

Dd started nursery last week and isn't sleeping all day so a 5.30am start is making things very tough for her. To make things worse when I go back to work the earliest dd is likely to be able to go to bed is 7pm. Am worried that such a long day with little sleep will make dd a very unhappy baby :(

Has anyone tried anything else?? Please help...

Can you give us an example of what a typical day looks like? How many days is she at nursery?

That sounds exactly, exactly like my son, and he's 14months, I'm exhausted and he is a lot of the time! So no advice sorry, just marking my place Sbs totally empathising with you :) he does 1 day a week at nursery at mo and 2 with grandparents and he's exhausted by the end of the day. X

Omama - two days a week at nursery at mo but will increase to 4. From 8am till 5.30pm.
Non nursery routine is roughly:
Awake 5.30am but try to leave dd in cot as long as can get away with. Usually protesting loudly by 6am.
6-6.30am porridge then play
9.30am bottle formula when put down for nap. Usually only sleeps 30 mins.
10-11.30am - baby groups, classes etc
12 - solids lunch then play
2pmish depending on tired cues, bottle formula when put down for nap. Usually sleeps anywhere between 30-75 mins.
5pm - solids tea
6.30 pm bath then bottle formula when put down to bed. Usually asleep straight away.
I'm just out of ideas and resigned to dd being tired. She fell asleep in the pram on the way home from nursery yesterday and was difficult to wake her up when we got home!

Neiffer: oh no, you're supposed to tell me it gets better:)
