Hello. My DS is almost 19 weeks old. He is EBF and currently sleeps in a crib in our room. A few weeks ago he was doing well. Having a feed at 10/11 and then sleeping in his crib til 4/5 having a feed and sleeping on til almost 8. Now he is rubbish. He will still fall asleep on one of us and be out in crib at 10.30ish he then wakes a good few times sometimes to eat sometimes to just cry.

It's starting to wear me down as the night before last he fed at 10,11,12 and 1am and then again at 4 and 7. After the 'night' feed he will not go back to sleep in his crib and we end up either me continually settling him or cosleeping which is no use for us.

I need help and advice. When he was going til 4/5 I could cope as he went back in crib. Now I can't. I've cleared out his room now and considering the cot tonight. Can anyone help? My HV useless and told me categorically that a baby his age should sleep through and that I had to fix it but didn't offer much practical advice other than to wean him early which I'm not keen on. Is there anything I can try without spending a fortune on books??

He will also not nap in the day for longer than 10/15 minutes UNLESS I happen to have been out and he has been in the car seat. This I can deal with as he is generally happy enough but he MUST need more sleep. Last night he slept from 11-2 then fed then slept 3-4 then was awake until near 6 with me holding his hand through the crib and picking him up until I eventually brought him in bed where he slept til DD woke us at 7:40. He has napped twice today, once on MIL for 35 mins and once on me for 25 mins and that's it!!

hi, I'm no expert but sounds a lot like classic 4 month sleep regression. lots of threads here and elsewhere on t'internet about that. also look up week 19 wonder week. no real solution other than do whatever helps you cope for the moment and wait for it to pass... it is caused by rapid development of new skills at this age.

your HV sounds beyond rubbish... many many babies this age and older do not sleep through, and if it is the 4 month regression, early weaning won't help and will only be adding a new skill for his little brain to work on so could even make it worse.

DS2 was like this, he just didn't sleep.

I don't want to scare you but it never got much better with him, he never got into the lovely long naps that DS1 used to have leaving me with several hours a day to myself. He didn't sleep through the night more than the odd occasion until he was about 18 months old.
He is now almost 2 and has pretty much dropped his daytime sleeps - he has about 20-30 minutes some days- while still only sleeping 11ish hours at night.

He is full of beans, eats well and runs around like a loon chattering about god knows what. He just genuinely doesn't seem to need that much sleep.

minipie I seem to encounter you on most of the threads I start! How are you?? I'm away to google wonder weeks now.

alibaba your right I don't want to hear that! If he would sleep all night I could cope, even if he slept most of it but just now it's just a nightmare!

My dd is a terrible sleeper too. Have no useful advice- everything I have tried hasn't worked, tho various things have had a temporary effect. Latest thing I am trying is baby whisperer shush pat or pick up put down, which is having some success, but it's a very slow process!
