Anyone bought from baby reflux.co.uk? Think dd has silent reflux

Just wondering (desperate) if any of their products could help 8month old dd as she is a terrible sleeper and we think some of it is reflux. The products I saw were the bed blocks(or am I being silly and need to just use books? And the wedge pillow but maybe dd is too old?

Or any advice on silent reflux? Gp telling me to get support from hv on sleep training but she often is screaming in her sleep so although I know we have some sleep association stuff to sort too, it's not just that and I don't think the middle of the night screaming in her sleep can be sorted with training as she IS asleep!

if it is silent reflux and is causing pain then medication will do a lot more than the wedges etc.

sounds like your GP doesn't think it is? worth trying a different GP I'd say.

what are her symptoms other than the screaming in her sleep? how is she at feeds?

She is either fine and feeds well or she wriggles like mad and grumbles whilst feeding, same goes for solids tbh it's probably half and half.

She sleeps very well in her pushchair or car seat for naps but isn't so great in the cot, did a bit of sleep training today at nap time(complicated situation at night as older child has sn so can't risk waking her)

She had gaviscon when tiny as she would start sounding like she was drowning after being layer flat, tried tilting the crib etc too. The gaviscon made her sick so stopped using it till recently when I asked for it again, the gp says she could only give gaviscon. I think it helps but not entirely sure, if it does its just a tiny help iykwim.

Yes I'd say silent reflux by the drowning sound and other things.

However my two had silent reflux and by 8 months I took them off meds and managed it via diet and stuff like bed blocks.
So I cut out dairy and soya as these were triggers for mine. And put them on their fronts for bedtime. Watch solids like acidic stuff too.
With ds I spoke to a dietician (after trialling no dairy/soya for a week first) and with dd I didn't bother as done it before.

Oh your GP talks shite - she could give ranitidine (much better than gaviscon).

Sorry meant to say she slept in her cot for around an hour today but grumbled and cried out every five to ten mins, this was crying and sleeping with me patting her, she was crying because she wanted to be held so this wouldn't have helped but when she got up she was burping and crying lots and then wouldn't eat much lunch, seemd hungry but was crying and wriggling then would burp and cry as if in pain.

What did she have for lunch?

Thanks yes I wondered if I should go back and ask for something else. I keep meaning to try cutting out dairy. I am going to do it from Thursday then, you have reminded me. Come to think of it she stopped the drowning noises when she started rolling on her front I think.

You need a referral to paediatrician. This needs managed by a specialist. Untreated reflux can lead to food refusal.

Why didnt you hold her for her nap? There's no point trying to sleep train a baby in pain (been there!)

Just cut out dairy for a week for her (and soya - really important) and keep a note. Keep a record of how she is now- so meals, behaviour, sleep. Do the same when you go no dairy and soya. Then you can present this to the GP

I had tried before the sleep but no success, she very rarely burps, in fact the gaviscon seems to make her burp more and throw up more but that's probably a good thing. She was having a beef stew thing for lunch but the discomfort was from before that I think as she couldn't really manage the lunch to begin with either. She had had half a crumpet with non dairy spread for breakfast and some banana. I had had a ,milky coffee though.

Crumpets have milk in (some do). Is the non dairy spread soya based?
Bananas can trigger reflux.

Do you BF? She might have tongue tie and is taking down air when feeding which could cause similar symptoms to reflux.

Trying to sleep train as had been convinced it was sleep association issues and have been having advice from hv. I think it is sleep association issues too but yes, today I wished I had in the end as she obviously was in pain. But I think the pain was possibly made worse by crying too. Poor thing.

I have booked a gp appointment but its not till march and I wanted to see a different gp. Would ranitidine work instantly? So tired from no sleep, she really is crying a lot in the night and that part is not trainable as she is asleep screaming with her eyes shut.

It worked within 24 hours for us. Try videoing the episodes on your phone to show the GP. That really helped us.

I've used them, I got the wedge thing so my little one could sleep on her side, it was bloody fabulous, just not having to worry if she was sick she wouldn't choke. Was also on ranitidine but neither that or Gaviscon worked so for us, as directed by our doctor and HV, we weaned at 16 weeks. The change was immediate and stopped all her problems.

I'd ditch the sleep training until she was pain free.

Ranitidine works pretty much instantly yes - it neutralises the acid. However you may have more success with your diet. It seems a huge effort but it's better than giving meds because you can get breakthrough reflux even if on med

Who would check for tongue tie?yes I bf. We had a feeding speech therapist here when she was tiny and she said it seemed like reflux, she was there for older dd but that was why I went to the gp initially. Non dairy spread is olive oil, no soya as was bought for vegan friend staying who doesn't eat soya either but don't usually put spread on them for her, funnily enough I get heartburn from crumpets.

We found a 15 degree wedge useful and tummy or side sleeping. The Little Refluxers support site associated with the baby reflux shop is brill. You need a book called Colic Solved by a gastro-paediatrician called Dr Bryan Vartebedian.Ignoring the stupid title, it's all about reflux, silent reflux and milk protein intolerance.

Thanks for advice yes diet is definitely worth a try particularly as we all get reflux, older dd had a stomach ulcer due to that and the meds she is on. Ranitidine sorted it for her but it was hard to know how long it took as there was other stuff going on.

A BF counsellor. Did she have feeding issues as a baby?

Check the crumpet ingredients. I get heartburn from them and some bread because of milk or soya in them.

Thanks will look the book up. Saw cranial osteopath yesterday, it tired her initially and she slept two hours in the car seat but then night was awful as ever.

Also check the spread - I've never found an olive spread without milk in!

used2, i have a sleep wedge (kind of like this) that a lovely mumsnetter sent to us, when ds was at his worst with silent reflux. It did sort of help, with the right medication as well. I would love to pass it on to you, if you pm me your address.
