Sleep

Is it normal for a cold to disrupt sleep this much?

My 18mo DS has caught another cold! We had just got his sleep back to normal after 2-3 weeks of sleeping on his floor during te last cough/cold.

He is such a poor patient and he wakes intermittently throughout the night, Only really dozing and refusing to be left alone. He struggles with breathing through his mouth and it really distresses him.

I dose him up with calpol, have karvol on sheets, Vicks in boiling water, saline drops up the nose. Nothing seems to keep him happy! I really suffer with anxiety with lack of sleep and it turns me into a rubbish mum. Also when he has a cold he will only take 1x 30 min nap, and whines all day long.

He went to bed this evening totally fine ad was up by 9 crying and all croaky. Still not back to sleep :(

He's like my Dh - man flu!

Any suggestions on how to help him/us?!

Hi PPL

Just to offer my commiserations! My DS has a cold just now and sounds just the same as yours. He is really not sleeping, dozing all night and wants to nurse constantly and naps have gone too. We both look dreadful!! Don't know whether it's normal or not though. Keeping fingers crossed this passes soooooon!!!!

Thanks both. Humidifier might be worth a try, thanks

I mentioned it to my nct lot recently, and all of theirs apparantly sleep better when they have a cold. WTF?

He seemed totally fine all day and then as soon as it was bedtime he went all snuffly and coldy :(
